Lawrenceburg Emergency Rescue Unit

History

Lawrenceburg Emergency Rescue Unit was formed in 1951. The equipment was housed with the Lawrenceburg Fire Department until 1991 when LERU moved into the US 50 building.

As with any volunteer unit, LERU went through many changes. The unit was an all volunteer unit up until 2001, when the first of four crews were hired for full time service. Lawrenceburg Emergency Rescue unit currently has four paid crews. They each work 12 hour shifts with rotating days off. The four crews are made up of two people per shift. There is an administrator to oversee day to day operations of the unit. The administrator also fills in for people when a day off is needed.

In 2004 Lawrenceburg Emergency Rescue Unit moved into the Lawrenceburg Fire Department building at 300 W Tate St. The move was a good one. There is more room for equipment. It is much easier for the ambulances to get in and out of the building.

In 2007, Lawrenceburg Emergency Rescue Unit made a major move forward in patient care. The service became ALS. LERU now provides 24 hour a day ALS care for the citizens in our coverage area. This is a major step improvement for the City of Lawrenceburg. ALS care means that people have a better chance at survival. In a life threatening emergency, LERU will be able to provide medications and interventions that are proven to safe lives.
